Nepali Community in Hong Kong Celebrates International Women’s Day 2026

NRNA Hong Kong Hosts Grand Event Highlighting Women’s Contributions, Opportunities, and Challenges.

Hong Kong, March 8, 2026 (Sunday) – The Nepali community in Hong Kong marked International Women’s Day 2026 with a grand celebration organized by the Non Resident Nepali Association Hong Kong Ltd (NRNA Hong Kong). The event, held at India Club, featured special discussions and recognition programs focusing on women’s contributions, opportunities, and challenges.

The program began with the playing of Hong Kong’s national anthem, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ms. Padma Kumari Gurung, President of Namo Buddha Ama Buddha Center. The session was jointly hosted by Vice Presidents Vicky Thapa and Asha Rai, under the coordination of Women’s Coordinator Ms. Sabitra Chhetri.

A donation box was placed to support Kirty Children Center, an organization working for children with special educational needs, raising HKD 1,830. Cultural performances by Benisha Gurung and Niti Gurung added vibrancy to the program.

Speeches were delivered by Ms. Pushpa Gurung, President of Kirty Children Center, and the Principal of French International School. The highlight of the event was a panel discussion moderated by registered social worker Ms. Anju Ghising, with panelists including Tarjuna Ale Magar, Sumiksha Gurung, Karishma Rai, and Chandrakala Rai. The discussion explored the contributions of Nepali women in Hong Kong and the challenges they continue to face.

Women who have made significant contributions in various fields were honored with certificates of appreciation and gifts. Honorees included: Anju Ghising, Aruna Rana, Chandrakala Rai, Dilkumari Limbu, Karishma Rai, Khushi Gurung, Pramila Gurung, Pushpa Gurung, Phoolmaya Gurung, Dipika Gurung, Purnima Shah, Sumiksha Gurung, Sangita Gurung, and Tarjuna Ale Magar.

The event was graced by social leaders of Hong Kong along with distinguished guests such as Miss Charlotte Cheung (Standing Committee Member, HKFTU), Rinzin Chodor (Project Manager, UCN), and social worker Michelle Yeung. This year’s campaign theme “Give To Gain” emphasized generosity, cooperation, and the creation of opportunities. As highlighted in the organization’s address: “When we give women opportunities, their success becomes our collective success.”

Organizers reminded participants of the essence of International Women’s Day: to honor women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements; to strengthen the demand for gender equality and justice; to raise awareness against discrimination and violence; and to ensure equal opportunities for future generations.

हङकङमा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय महिला दिवस २०२६ भव्य रूपमा सम्पन्न

एनआरएनए हङकङको आयोजनामा महिलाको योगदान, अवसर र चुनौतीबारे विशेष छलफल

हङकङ, ८ मार्च २०२६ (आइतबार) – हङकङमा बसोबास गर्ने नेपाली समुदायले अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय महिला दिवस २०२६ भव्य रूपमा मनाएको छ। गैर आवासीय नेपाली संघ हङकङ लिमिटेड (NRNA Hong Kong Ltd) को आयोजनामा इन्डिया क्लबमा सम्पन्न कार्यक्रममा महिलाको योगदान, अवसर र चुनौतीबारे विशेष छलफल तथा सम्मान कार्यक्रम गरिएको थियो।

कार्यक्रमको शुरुवात हङकङको राष्ट्रिय गान बजाएर गरिएको थियो। त्यसपछि नमोबुद्ध आमा बुद्ध सेन्टरकी अध्यक्ष पद्म कुमारी गुरुङले पानसमा बत्ती बालेर उद्घाटन गर्नुभयो। संचालन उपसभापतीद्वय विक्की थापा तथा आसा राईले गर्नुभएको थियो भने महिला संयोजक सबित्रा क्षेत्रीको संयोजकत्वमा कार्यक्रम अघि बढाइएको थियो।

विशेष शिक्षा आवश्यकताका बालबालिकाका लागि कार्यरत किर्ती चिल्ड्रेन सेन्टरलाई सहयोग गर्न चन्दा बाकस राखिएको थियो, जसबाट १८३० हङकङ डलर संकलन गरिएको थियो। साथै, बेनीशा गुरुङ र निति गुरुङले प्रस्तुत गरेको नेपाली नृत्यले कार्यक्रमलाई आकर्षक बनाएको थियो।

कार्यक्रममा किर्ती चिल्ड्रेन सेन्टरकी अध्यक्ष पुष्पा गुरुङ तथा फ्रेन्च इन्टरनेशनल स्कूलका प्रिन्सिपलले मन्तव्य दिनुभएको थियो। मुख्य आकर्षणको रूपमा रहेको प्यानल छलफललाई दर्ता प्राप्त सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता अञ्जु घिसिङले संचालन गर्नुभएको थियो। छलफलमा तर्जुना आले मगर, सुमिक्षा गुरुङ, करिष्मा राई, चन्द्रकला राई सहभागी हुनुहुन्थ्यो। छलफलमा हङकङमा नेपाली महिलाले गरेका योगदान र सामना गरिरहेका चुनौतीहरूबारे गहन विचार विमर्श गरिएको थियो।

कार्यक्रममा हङकङमा रहेर विभिन्न क्षेत्रमा विशिष्ट योगदान पुर्याएका महिलाहरूलाई प्रशंसा पत्र तथा उपहारद्वारा सम्मान गरिएको थियो। सम्मानित हुने महिलाहरूमा अञ्जु घिसिङ, अरुणा राना, चन्द्रकला राई, दिलकुमारी लिम्बु, करिष्मा राई, खुशी गुरुङ, प्रमिला गुरुङ, पुष्पा गुरुङ, फूलमाया गुरुङ, दिपिका गुरुङ, पूर्णिमा शाह, सुमिक्षा गुरुङ, संगिता गुरुङ, तर्जुना आले मगर रहेका थिए।

यस अवसरमा HKFTU की Standing Committee Member मिस चार्लोट चेउङ, UCN का प्रोजेक्ट मेनेजर रिन्जिन चोडोर, समाजसेवी मिशेल युङ लगायत हङकङका सामाजिक अगुवाहरूको उपस्थिति रहेको थियो। यस वर्षको अभियान “Give To Gain” ले उदारता, सहयोग र अवसर सृजनाको महत्वलाई जोड दिएको थियो। संस्थाको भाषणमा भनिएझैँ: “जब महिलाहरूलाई अवसर दिन्छौं, उनीहरूको सफलता हाम्रो सामूहिक सफलता हुन्छ।”

आयोजकहरूले स्मरण गराए—अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय महिला दिवस महिलाको सामाजिक, आर्थिक, सांस्कृतिक र राजनीतिक उपलब्धिको सम्मान गर्न, लैङ्गिक समानता र न्यायको मागलाई सशक्त बनाउन, भेदभाव र हिंसा विरुद्ध जागरण फैलाउन, र भविष्यका पुस्तालाई समान अवसर सुनिश्चित गर्न मनाइन्छ।
